project description

Executed within the Center for Canadian Studies of Iaşi, this project aims at elaborating a Dictionary of Canadian Francophony (terms

and authors) which will constitute a fundamental work instrument

for students, researchers, teachers, professors, specialists

in Canadian studies, as well as an important information support

(the first in its kind in Romanian on a national and international level) for Francophone Romanians both in Romania and in Canada

(the Romanian diaspora).

The approach will be encyclopedic: written according to a scientific methodology by a team of specialists in Francophone and Canadian studies, the dictionary will offer essential data about the Canadian identity and diversity (key figures, historical dates and events, currents and movements of ideas, representative concepts and terms), with brief samples from fundamental texts.

The dictionary will be perfectly integrated within the state-of-the-art area of lexicographic works and instruments related to Canadian studies. Internal and external referees will permanently supervise

the pertinence, accuracy and up-to-date features of the approach.

The steps to be followed in writing this dictionary will obey

all the requirements pertaining to lexicographic and encyclopedic research (information-documentation, filing, reading, summarizing, personalization, etc.), with a work schedule, individual tasks

for members, supervising and centralization of results, periodical reports and final evaluation.

The dictionary entries (approximately 2,000 for a volume of 1,500 pages) will be preceded by an overview and a rich introductory survey on Canadian Francophony, and followed by appendices (summaries, drawings, tables, chronological overviews, etc.),

an up-to-date bibliography (databases; printed, electronic

or online lexicographic and encyclopedic instruments; useful sites;

most important Francophone institutions and organizations, etc.).

An electronic edition, on CD-ROM, will join the printed dictionary.
